Chapter Thirty: Group Selection Part III

The Group selection continued quite strategically with the Dark Masters and Potioneers scoring from the use of their preemptive challenges, and now the pool of potential jurors is finally narrowed down to twelve smart individuals, from which pool the appointments to the Group of Seven will be made, as currently allowed by the Standing Orders for the celebratory holding of the Purple Junket.

The Dark Masters will have the opportunity to target a juror whom they think would not be a good fit for their overall campaign. Again, the Team Captain stood up from his seat, and prepared himself for the tough questioning ahead.

"Juror Number 38, in your opinion, why do you think the selected question for this particular prudence war will be very important?"

"All questions that were selected for all prudence wars were important in some way. That is why the question is to be determined by a set of rules," Juror Number 38 responded calmly.

"And do you believe that the system is foolproof, that it cannot be mistaken, as long as it was chosen by virtue of the appointed rules?" Guilder Spoors followed up for the Dark Masters.

"The system works just fine unless it is deliberately corrupted for personal interest," the potential juror replied.

"And do you think this pool of potential jurors is not capable of committing this kind of corruption?" Guilder asked again, prodding.

"Nobody can honestly say if someone is capable of doing wrongful things, that is why there is an equitable process to appoint the Seven who will compose this Group. It is the ultimate responsibility of both parties who are choosing this appointment if corruption will eventually find its way into the Group of Seven," Juror Number 38 quickly replied.

"And why do you think you deserve to sit in the elite Group of Seven?"

"I really have no personal reasons to participate in this courageous activity after my previous victory. I was here because I was summoned to perform the solemn duty required of me by the Most Prudent Treaty Organization."

"Let's talk about your personal capacity. What do you think constitutes fairness?" Guilder further asked, satisfied with the answers so far.

"Fairness is the ability to see beyond our personal biases, and to be able to scrutinize a thought even though it contradicts with our own set of beliefs, as long as it appeals to reason, and there is a minimum standard ground for its elucidation to stand on."

Guilder Spoors nodded.

"Do you believe in the fairness of the rules despite its apparent consequences?"

"Absolutely," Juror Number 38 said with a straight face.

"Is there any chance that you will always side with the Potioneers?"

"I will always side with the truth; not with my biases. I hold my virtues like a badge of honor."

"Of course," Guilder Spoors declared. He returned his gaze to the bench. "Mr. Commissioner, we pose no objection to the appointment of this particular Juror to the Group of Seven."
